We love charts around here. Okay, maybe I've completely brain-washed my family, but they do seem to enjoy it. And it makes our daily routine go so much smoother. Plus, I really do LOVE charts!
So, here's out new chart:
. My original plan was to use pictures of them doing their chores for the magnets. Did.Not.Work. It would have taken me forever to finish it! So, instead I used my 1 inch hole punch, pretty scrapbook paper, double sided tape, and one of those lovely magnets advertising something (?) that you get free in the mail. I drew little pictures of the chore (for my 3 year old who cannot read) on her circles, cut up the magnet and taped them on. (I SOOOOO badly wanted to laminate them but decided not to at this point). Then, I was just going to write the words on Thao's but he apparently thinks I'm a super artist so he wanted me to draw the pictures on his too. Just to be clear, both sets of magnets have pictures and words to encourage literacy.
Chore List:
-brush teeth
-make (a good attempt) bed
-get dressed
-Jack's food and water
-feed fish
-do school
-set table
-wipe table
-take dishes to the kitchen
-empty dishwasher
-laundry (dirty clothes to hamper & put their own clothes away)
-pick up toys
-help with Liam
-vacuum
-dust
-bedtime (obeying during our bedtime routine)
-bath
-empty trash
-change sheets
Of course, our expectations are different for each child, based on what is age/developmentally appropriate. Then, we have our point system:
1 point - doing the chore
2 points- doing the chore with a happy heart (good attitude)
3 points- going out of their way to help someone (best example: Thao cleaned the sink to surprise me the other day)
I think they will average about 24 points per day. Once they earn 175 points they get their allowance. This should average out to about $1 per week.
What do you do for chores at your house? What are your expectations? Your rewards? Or is it just easier to do it yourself?
So, here's out new chart:
Not a great picture, I apologize.I suppose I should just pay Lindy (my photographer sister-in-law) to follow us around with a camera. |
Put bathroom laundry away. |
Take your dishes to the kitchen. |
Do school. |
Pick up toys. (I asked him why he didn't smile in any of the pictures. His answer, "I'm doing chores". I should have know he had a reason.) |
Put kitchen laundry away. |
