I guess I should explain "referral", just in case. The referral is the point where we are matched with a child. It just sounds SO simple. I don't want to romanticize it at all so here's a little more detail on the way this typically works: finish lots of paperwork. wait. wait. wait. worry. fret. stress. wait. get a call or email notifying you of a child that may fit your profile. read, read, read over all the information on that child (typically not much and sometimes inaccurate). look at pictures. scour pictures for more details on that child. go over medical history with doctors. pray. pray. pray. make a decision.
That being said, we have accepted an "unofficial" referral!!!! We are waiting on a few papers to officially accept, but we are praying and hoping that this becomes official very soon. She is a sweetie (from the pictures and stories). Our story leading up to this is very much a God thing. His timing. We serve a big God and we believe he has been gently leading us to this sweet 2 year old. Please pray with us!
I mean, really, we are in awe of God's timing in this journey. We applied to the Congo program January 11 and here we are. Of course, the long wait is yet to come.
Financially, we are not ready to accept a referral. But, we are getting closer! 2 weeks ago we still needed around $14,000. Today we only need $8,500 more!!! (This does not include travel, but that's not really our focus right now) So, all of a sudden, we are on a time crunch. We have made the decision to really focus on getting this so we are ready the minute she is. (Can you tell we love those brown eyes of hers already?)
In order to help bring in the money quickly, my amazing husband is discounting all of his beautiful pieces he has for sale. Please check out his etsy shop here.
I'm sure you all have many questions for us. Feel free to ask! I may not post answers publicly or give many details publicly out of respect for her privacy, but you understand. ;)
